Pika H3 Flex Pricing: API Cost per Second, Plans and What a Clip Really Costs

How much does Pika H3 Flex cost? Per-second API rates by resolution, launch vs regular pricing, audio stems, self-hosting costs and worked examples for 5–15 second clips.

Pika H3 Flex is billed per second of output video, and the price depends mostly on resolution. This guide collects the published rates, shows what common clips cost, and compares the three ways to pay: Pika’s developer API, a credit-based studio like this site, or your own GPUs.

Prices change — especially around a launch — so treat the numbers below as a snapshot and check the Pika developer pricing page before you budget.

Pika developer API rates

At the time of writing, Pika’s model page lists these rates for text-to-video and image-to-video:

ResolutionPrice per output second5 s clip10 s clip15 s clip
480p$0.01$0.05$0.10$0.15
768p$0.02$0.10$0.20$0.30
1080p (upscaled)$0.035$0.175$0.35$0.525
2K (upscaled)$0.04$0.20$0.40$0.60
4K (upscaled)$0.08$0.40$0.80$1.20

A few details matter:

  • These are launch rates. Coverage of the launch described them as roughly half of Pika’s regular pricing, so expect the per-second price to rise later.
  • Only successful generations are billed, according to Pika’s docs.
  • Reference-to-video costs more — listed from $0.03 per second.
  • Audio stems (five separate WAV tracks: Dialogue, Score, SFX, Foley, Ambience) are an add-on reported at $0.001 per second.
  • The API is prepaid. You top up a USD balance and each job is charged against it.
  • At launch Pika also offered 15 free daily generations to API Club members for two weeks — a limited promotion, not a permanent free tier.

Pricing on this site

PikaH3Flex sells credits instead of a USD balance, so you do not need a developer account or any code. Credits are charged per second, the same way the API is:

ResolutionCredits / second5 s10 s15 s

768p3153045
1080p5255075
2K6306090
4K1260120180

Plans start at $9.90/month for 300 credits (about 20 five-second 768p clips). Pro is $24.90 for 900 credits and Max is $59.90 for 2,400 credits; yearly billing saves 20%. One-time credit packs start at $7.90. There is no free tier, and failed generations are refunded automatically. Full details are on the pricing page.

Why pay a studio instead of the API? You get a ready interface, generation history, image uploads, downloads and refunds handled for you. If you are a developer integrating video into your own product, the API is usually the better fit.

What does self-hosting cost?

The weights are free to download, but the hardware is not:

  • Downloads: the MiniMax H3 base plus Flex adapters total roughly 210–220 GB.
  • GPU: Pika’s representative 480p and 768p CLI runs passed on a single H100 80GB; larger requests may need CPU offload.
  • Resolution: local generation is native 480p/768p. The 1080p–4K upscaler runs only on Pika’s service.
  • License: the weights are under the MiniMax H3 Community License — check its terms for your use and region before deploying.

If you rent an H100 by the hour, the break-even point against hosted pricing depends on how many clips you render per hour and how much time you spend on setup. For occasional use, hosted generation is almost always cheaper; self-hosting makes sense for high, steady volume or strict data-control needs. See the ComfyUI setup guide.

Worked examples

A 30-clip social calendar at 768p, 5 seconds each. API: 30 × $0.10 = $3.00 at launch rates. Here: 30 × 15 = 450 credits — covered by the Pro plan with room for retakes.

One 15-second 4K ad final plus ten 480p drafts. API: $1.20 + 10 × $0.05 = $1.70 at launch rates. Here: 180 + 10 × 10 = 280 credits — inside the Basic plan.

Iterating smart. Draft at 480p (cheapest), lock the prompt and seed of the take you like, then re-render once at the final resolution. Because 1080p–4K are upscales of a 768p generation, judge composition and motion at 768p before paying for 4K.

Summary

  • Pika H3 Flex costs from $0.01 per second at 480p up to $0.08 per second at 4K on Pika’s API at launch rates, with regular prices expected to be higher.
  • A credit studio trades a small premium for no-code convenience, history and automatic refunds.
  • Self-hosting is free in license fees but needs an 80 GB-class GPU and ~215 GB of downloads.
