Is Pika H3 Flex Free? Open Weights vs Paid Generation, Explained

Nov 1, 2026PikaH3Flex EditorialPikaH3Flex Editorial

Is Pika H3 Flex free to use? The weights are free to download, but generation costs money one way or another. Here is what is free, what is paid and the cheapest way to make clips.

Pika H3 Flex is free to download but not free to run. Pika released the weights openly on Hugging Face, so you pay nothing for the model itself. Generating video, however, needs either your own datacenter-class GPU or a paid hosted service. There is no permanent free tier on Pika’s API, and hosted studios — including this one — charge for generation because every clip uses paid GPU time.

What is actually free

  • The weights. The Flex adapters and the pinned MiniMax H3 base files are free to download from Hugging Face, under the MiniMax H3 Community License.
  • The code. The inference CLI on GitHub is Apache 2.0.
  • The ComfyUI templates. ComfyUI ships official Pika H3 Flex workflows at no cost.

“Open weights” still comes with license conditions. The weights are not Apache-licensed; read the MiniMax H3 Community License before using local generations commercially.

What costs money

Running it yourself

The download is free; the hardware is not. Pika tested the CLI on an H100 80GB, and a five-second 480p clip used about 66–69 GiB of GPU memory. You also need about 216 GB of disk. If you rent a GPU in the cloud you pay by the hour, plus setup time. Local output also stops at 768p — 1080p to 4K upscaling is Pika-hosted. Details: GitHub and Hugging Face guide.

Pika’s API

The Pika API is prepaid and billed per output second, from $0.01 per second at the lowest resolution. At launch Pika ran a limited promotion of free daily generations for its API Club, which was time-limited and not a permanent free tier.

Pika’s creation app

Pika says Flex arrives in its creation app on November 2, 2026. Usage there follows Pika’s own plans.

This site

PikaH3Flex has no free tier and no free trial. The cheapest option is the one-time Starter pack: 190 credits for $9.90, about nine five-second 768p clips, and pack credits never expire. Subscriptions start at $11.90 per month billed yearly. Failed generations are refunded automatically, so you only pay for clips that finish. See pricing.

Why no free trial here?

Every generation is a real paid GPU job. Free trials on video generators attract mass sign-ups for free compute, which pushes up prices for paying users. We keep the entry price low instead — $9.90 one-time — and refund every failed generation.

The cheapest way to use Pika H3 Flex

  • You own an 80 GB GPU: run the open weights; your cost is electricity.
  • You write code and need volume: the API at per-second rates.
  • You want a few clips without code: a one-time credit pack here — no subscription, credits that never expire. Start with text to video or image to video.
